What is Art Deco?
The term Art Deco was coined
after the name of
the exposition that marked,
in Paris, 1925, the height of the style
Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs
et Industriels Modernes
(International Exposition of Modern
Industrial and Decorative Arts).
This
denomination is recent,
at the early 20th century
it was called “Modern Style”.
The main characteristics are the geometric lines,

giving emphasis to
aerodynamics,
and inspired by many ancient cultures,
like Greece, Egypt, among
others
and, in the case of Brazil,
the Marajoara Culture (400-1400).
The Brazilian Art Deco Institute
was created in
October 10, 2005,
as a public interest non-governmental organization,
by a
group of enthusiasts of the style:

the Art Deco
style in Brazil in general,
and in Rio de Janeiro in particular,

interest in the
Brazilian Indigenous scion,
predominantly influenced by the
Marajoara Culture.
