What is Art Deco?

The term Art Deco was coined
after the name of the exposition that marked,
in Paris, 1925, the height of the style
 Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs
 et Industriels Modernes
(International Exposition of Modern
Industrial and Decorative Arts).

 This denomination is recent,
at the early 20th century
 it was called “Modern Style”.

The main characteristics are the geometric lines,
 giving emphasis to aerodynamics,
and inspired by many ancient cultures,
 like Greece, Egypt, among others
and, in the case of Brazil,
 the Marajoara Culture (400-1400).

The Brazilian Art Deco Institute
was created in October 10, 2005,
as a public interest non-governmental organization,
by a group of enthusiasts of the style:

Honorary President: Luiz Paulo Conde
President: Márcio Alves Roiter
Vice-President: Luiz Fernando Grabowsky

Advisors:
Piedade Grinberg
Suzete Aché

To preserve, study and celebrate
the Art Deco style in Brazil in general,
and in Rio de Janeiro in particular,
with special interest in the
 Brazilian Indigenous scion,
predominantly influenced by the
 Marajoara Culture.
